About the Program

Entering its 70th season, the Redwood High School Wrestling program continues to stand as one of the most historic and accomplished programs in Tulare County.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Dave Watts and Assistant Head Coach Michael Wright II, Redwood Wrestling has continued to reach new heights both individually and as a team.

Recent accomplishments include back-to-back CIF Division II Boys Team Championships in 2023 and 2024, five consecutive league championships, and three straight top-10 finishes at the Central Section Masters Championships, highlighted by a 6th-place finish in 2026.

Program Culture

The goal of our program goes far beyond winning matches — our mission is to develop great men and women, future leaders, and individuals prepared to succeed in life.

Our culture is built around two core standards: Ranger Style and Blue Collar. These standards shape everything our student-athletes do — in the classroom, in the community, and on the mat. We believe success is built through consistency, discipline, accountability, toughness, gratitude, and relentless effort.

At Redwood Wrestling, we compete to a standard, not to circumstances or results. We focus on daily improvement, preparation, and habits that create long-term success. Our athletes learn to embrace adversity, work with purpose, and take pride in doing things the right way even when no one is watching.

The lessons learned through our program extend far beyond wrestling. Our goal is for every wrestler to leave equipped with the mental toughness, discipline, confidence, and character needed to thrive in college, careers, leadership roles, and life.

Ranger Upadates

25-26 Season Roundup

The 2025–2026 season was another historic year for the program, highlighted by the boys team capturing its fifth consecutive league championship and securing a fourth straight EYL Championship. The team continued to establish itself as one of the top programs in the Central Section, earning a 6th place finish at the CIF Division I Championships.

Every wrestler in the varsity lineup advanced to the Central Section Masters Championships, where the team finished in 6th place overall — the second-highest Masters finish in school history, and 3rd straight finish in the top 10.

The program produced four CIF State qualifiers:

128 lbs — Osiel Pérez
134 lbs — John Benitez
157 lbs — Maceson Vasquez
285 lbs — Enrique Segura

Heavyweight Enrique Segura capped off an outstanding season with a Round of 12 finish at the CIF State Championships.

On the girls' side, the team was led by standout Emily Carvalho at 190 lbs. Carvalho finished as a CIF State runner-up and earned national rankings recognition, solidifying herself as one of the premier wrestlers in the state and country.

The season reflected the continued growth, consistency, and championship standard of the program, both on the boys' and girls' sides.

2026 Spring

The Spring 2026 season showcased the continued growth and success of the program across multiple elite offseason events throughout California and the western United States.

At the California USA Folkstyle State Championships, the program produced several podium finishers led by:

Benny Waddell — 3rd Place
Eli Archuleta — 3rd Place
Jordan Maldonado — 3rd Place
Cloey Castro — 5th Place
Kobe Negrete — 6th Place
Max Mendoza — 7th Place
Camilo Yepez — 8th Place

The team also had an outstanding performance at the SCWAY NorCal High School State Championships with numerous individual placers across freshman, sophomore, and varsity divisions.

Leading the way was Houston Schnider, who captured:

The offseason success continued at Reno Worlds, one of the premier national tournaments in the country, where the program earned three All-American finishes:

Johnny Benitez — 18U Division 7th Place
Kobe Negrete — 18U Division 7th Place

The Spring 2026 season highlighted the depth and development through competition.
